First off I need to say I am not a person who keeps cigars without a humidor. There are many people who are just starting off with cigars and they have not decided if this is a hobby they will enjoy. So here is some information to help you.

Before we get into this we need to understand what the cigar world would call the cardinal rules.
1. Cigars should never be kept anywhere that’s prone to growing mold or fungus.
2. Never store cigars in a place that has dramatic swings in temperature, such as a partially enclosed sun porch or attic room that’s only occasionally heated or cooled. They will crack and split. 3. It’s best to store your cigars inside the house, even if you don’t smoke them inside. Avoid storing cigars in garages or outbuildings; not only is the climate variation too dramatic (unless you live in the tropics), but cigars kept outside the house invite bugs and mold. If you have an attached garage that is kept at about the same temperature as your home, you can store your cigars there with no harm.
The goal is to keep your cigars at 70°F (21°C) and 70 percent humidity.
What is the best thing to place cigars in? Zip lock bag or air vacuum bags, are my personal opinion best. But if you decide to use a zip lock make sure you buy the heavy duty freezer bag. Because you will loose humidity in a bag you can place a moist sponge or florist foam.

Now if you want a great seal for a short time then you can use a vacuum seal type of bag. Remember nothing in my opinion is better that a humidor, But the goal is always 70°F (21°C) and 70 percent humidity.
Hope that helps some of you, and remember "Have you had a great cigar today?"
